Drugdealer At Saint Luke’s - Glasgow
Drugdealer headlined his first ever Scottish show at Saint Luke’s. I was really looking forward to the gig as a fan of his music. The night started shakily, with a couple of early mess-ups and even a song that had to be restarted, which immediately knocked the momentum.
“Pictures of You” came second in the set and was easily the highlight of the night. It was the one song most of the crowd clearly knew, and for a few minutes the energy in the room finally clicked.
After that, though, the set leaned heavily on unreleased material. Michael Collins has been open about not wanting to play much of his older music because of issues with his old label, but it meant a lot of the night passed by without much for the crowd to latch onto.
The band sounded decent, but without many of the songs people came to hear, the Glasgow crowd ended up feeling a bit flat. As someone who enjoys Drugdealer’s music, it was disappointing to leave feeling like the peak of the show came so early, especially in a city known for its famously lively crowds.
