INDIE ROCKERS SOMEBODYS CHILD LIGHT UP KOKO
On 22nd October 2025, London’s KOKO was lit up by Dublin-based indie rockers Somebody’s Child for a packed headliner in the city. This gig was part of their back-to-back UK and EU dates on their When Youth Fades Away tour, where the band will stop off in countless cities across Britain, before finishing in Belfast and eventually taking on the rest of Europe.
Prior to this show, I’d never been to KOKO before. Stood just outside Mornington Crescent station, KOKO is a beautiful intimate venue in the heart of Camden’s High Street. Once known as The Camden Theatre, KOKO has hosted legends from Coldplay to Prince, and pop queen Lady Gaga to acoustic heartthrob Noel Gallagher, so Wednesday’s lineup definitely had big shoes to fill.
But before Somebody’s Child took the stage came a fabulous opener.
Bria Keely, or Better Joy, as she’s most known, was up first. Kicking off the night with her fun indie tracks, she got the crowd entertained and ready for the night ahead, dancing with them one minute, and playing guitar the next – a true performer. It’s no wonder she’s opening for Amy Macdonald this year on tour. Her set was fierce and gutsy, full of deep vibrating bass, and a certain angst in her voice. After such a punchy opener, the crowd was ready.
The lights went down, and Somebody Child’s then took to the stage. Their guitarist walked on first, playing with his MIDI controller, to create unique, experimental indie beats, which built and then started to kick in when the rest of the group took the stage as the first chords of The Kid began to play. With an extended intro, the audience began dancing from the very start, belting the indie anthem from the top of their lungs. Frontman Cian Godfrey had swagger about him as he shook his tambourine with power, and golden lights flashed in time with every pounding drumbeat.
The Irish five-piece’s set blended tracks from their latest album When Youth Fades Away, with fan-favourites from other albums, including self-titled Somebody’s Child and Hope, Amongst Other Things, giving fans plenty of euphoric indie tunes to party to.
Overall, it was a joyful night out in the city, and you left that venue feeling on top of the world. Only legendary bands can do that. If you’re yet to get your tickets, grab them while you still can.
