Jason Derulo’s The Last Dance Tour
I managed to catch global superstar Jason Derulo on his The Last Dance world tour at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena. Many fans have speculated that the tour’s name may hint at Derulo slowing down his touring schedule—or perhaps be on his final tour. Only time will tell.
Despite having begun his career over 15 years ago, Jason Derulo continues to fill arenas across the world, and Birmingham was no exception. The venue was packed from every angle, with concertgoers wearing light-up wristbands that synchronised with the show as Jason performed. It was a visual spectacle unlike anything I’ve personally experienced at a concert before. Although the main standing floor had been converted into seated sections, this did little to dampen the energy—fans were on their feet, dancing and partying throughout the entire set.
Jason took to the stage shortly before 9pm, accompanied by his band, DJ, and an impressive group of backup dancers. Each dancer was exceptionally talented, and at one point Derulo paused the show to give them a well-deserved shoutout, explaining that he had searched the world to assemble only the very best dancers for his team. Among those who closely accompanied him throughout the performance were the Les Twins, who brought an electrifying presence to the stage.
Although Jason may no longer be in his youthful prime, this did nothing to hinder his ability to sing and dance simultaneously while delivering a truly outstanding performance. His showmanship and artistry felt effortless, and it was clear that he genuinely loves what he does. The setlist featured an impressive 37 songs, including a segment where his DJ played hits that Jason had written for other artists alongside his own chart-topping tracks.
Midway through the show, Jason performed Savage Love, his 2020 collaboration with Jawsh 685 that dominated TikTok dance trends during the pandemic. After singing the song live, he repeatedly delivered the infectious chorus a cappella, showcasing his impressive vocal control and range. Following a brief dance break, the show shifted from high-energy performances to a more stripped-back and intimate mood. This transition began with U + I, a track from his 2024 album Nu King. During the performance, multiple camera angles—including an aerial shot—were displayed on the main screens, enhancing the emotional impact. The song set the tone beautifully for the slower moments that followed and felt deeply moving.
In the latter part of the show, Jason left the main stage and made his way into the pit, walking in a square formation around the standing floor while interacting closely with fans. These moments created lasting memories for those lucky enough to be near him. One particularly touching moment saw Jason lock arms and share a long, emotional hug with a fan in the centre of the crowd. Both appeared visibly moved, with Jason seemingly holding back tears. Throughout the night, there were several moments where he paused between songs, silently soaking in the atmosphere as the crowd roared with appreciation.
Jason Derulo is truly a top-tier performer and a man of many musical talents. If you ever get the chance to see him live on tour, you won’t regret it.
