The Vaccines at Usher Hall
The Vaccines brought a packed Usher Hall to life as part of the 15th anniversary tour for their debut album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?. They played the record in full to start the night, which meant the crowd got hit with one early favourite after another. Hearing those songs back to back after all these years felt special, with all of the room singing along.
Justin Young sounded great and the band sounding fresh still after all those years. After finishing the album they came back with a run of their other hits, which kept the energy up right to the end. A really solid indie rock show and a good reminder of why that first record still means so much to people.
Highlight of the night for me was “Norgaard” and seemed to be the same with the crowd a proper indie classic that defines The Vaccines. There was a good balance between old and new. The newer material held its own and did not feel out of place next to the songs people had clearly been living with for years. By the time they hit the final stretch the whole place was on its feet.
