Kneecap takeover Crystal Palace Park

The Irish rap trio performed at Crystal Palace Park to over 20k people making it their biggest headline gig of their careers so far and a historic moment in the meteoric rise of the group.

Following the release of their latest album “Fenian” in May, Kneecap took over the South London park which was described as being one of the largest gatherings in the 2026 London Irish calendar making this event even more unique for everyone involved. The past few years have made the trio bigger by selling out tours to making films or being in the spotlight by media because of some controversies such as Glastonbury 2024 and when member Mo Chara was charged with a terrorism offence which was later dismissed by the court.

The support lineup was quite varied and helped warm up the crowd ready for Kneecap to get on stage. The artists consisted of The Mary Wallopers, Fat Dog, Biig Piig, The Gurriers and Madra Salach. My personal favourite was Fat Dog, a punk band from South London, that were the only non Irish artists of the day, who ended up getting into the crowd to start mosh pits and cause chaos ready for Kneecap.

Just before the Irish rap trio hit the stage, a sea of balaclavas started appearing as everyone put them on because they are replicas of the same one that member DJ Próvai wears which used to be a disguise when he was a maths teacher but also in the group at the same time. There was also a lot of Palestine flags and chants of “Free Palestine” showing how politically driven the trio are.

They opened their chaotic set with the same 3 songs that their latest album also starts with but the crowd made it sound like the songs had been around for years by the high energy that soared through everyone. A highlight for most people was when they surprised everyone with an appearance from Kae Tempest who performed with them for the song “Irish Goodbye” making the night even more special.

Kneecap also paid a poignant tribute to music manager Trevor Dietz, who died suddenly a few weeks ago, by showing his name on screen with a Palestine flag behind it to represent how he was political as well. The trio had to keep stopping and restarting a few songs to help people in the crowd with issues they were having and telling everyone to drink water as 20k people and 30 degrees weather doesn’t mix well but this shows how much the trio care about their fans.

Anthems such as “Get your Brits out”, “C.E.A.T.R.A.” and “H.O.O.D.” charged the crowd up into multiple mosh pits and singing that almost drowned out the speakers. Even when the closing song was playing the energy stayed the same because everyone knew how big this night was and wanted to enjoy it as much as they could until the very end.

This historic event showed just how big Kneecap have got in the past few years and this gig will have made their trajectory increase even more which will have them playing to even bigger crowds in the future. They tore up the London park with their chaos on stage and picked exactly the right supports to help keep the energy up all day at this massive gathering. Anyone that was there won’t be forgetting it any time soon especially as the trio grow even more over the next few years.
