The Pogues at Barrowlands in Glasgow
With the first of two nights at the Barrowlands, the venue was already heaving before The Pogues even hit the stage. The buzz was real.
Things kicked off slightly behind schedule, with the band coming on about 15 minutes late. But as soon as they launched into The Sick Bed of Cúchulainn, any wait was quickly forgotten. It was a loud, confident start to what ended up being a 23-song set, and the crowd was with them from the first beat.
Spider Stacy took on frontman duties for the night. There were a few guest appearances throughout the set too adding a bit of variety without ever pulling focus. Everyone on stage looked genuinely glad to be there, and the energy felt more like a celebration than a typical gig.
Hearing these songs live in a venue like the Barrowlands added something special. The crowd also seemed to think so, singing along word for word. Overall, it was a great night, and one to be excited about if you’re heading to the second show.
